The junior girls basketball team had an excellent year at Western Canada High School so far in 2015.

“Resilient, competitive, family” is how Head Coach Mr. Kerkhoven described his experience with the team this year.

The team finished the season with 16 wins and 8 losses, and Mr. Kerkhoven contributed this success to the experience on his team, where there are five grade elevens and seven grade tens. They won the Lindsay Thurber Tournament in Red Deer and came second at the REB Tournament at Jasper Place High School in Edmonton as well as in the Bishop O’Byrne Invitational in Calgary. They also went to the Division 1 city semifinal, losing to the eventual city champion.

This team is a favorite among Western students and is considered to be a force to be reckoned with for other high schools.

“There is a sense of belonging within the team. It’s like a second family. It never ceases to amaze how my teammates make me laugh.” Allie Perrins, Junior Girls Basketball Athlete
