The 2015 Rugby season starts this spring! Check back for more updates.

Western Canada’s Rugby program has a long and storied history within the sphere of Calgary High School Athletics. Both the Girls and Boys rugby programs have been awarded countless provincial and city championships dating all the way back to 1903. With over 200 students being involved in Rugby at some point in their high school career, rugby has grown into one the most well known and most respected sports at Western.

Lead by an excellent coaching staff, dedicated student trainers and managers and a highly energetic student population, the Rugby program is widely recognized as one of the best in the province and attracts athletes from all over Calgary. Although official tryouts do not take place until late march, cross training and conditioning begins as early as February.

Athletes from Western often graduate and play at a higher varsity/post-secondary level and few get the opportunity to represent their country all over the world. Jackson McDonough, from the class of 2014 for instance, is playing at University of San Diego and is involved with the Team Canada Sevens team. Ali Wicklum, a 2014 graduate as well, is currently plying her trade with the University of Alberta Pandas rugby team, and participated in the National University 7's rugby championships.

“Producing strong, skilled athletes is the main goal; achievement usually follows. We all need to set a tone this year, remembering the past and creating the legacy for the future” – Jarrod Fuhr, Head Coach Sr. Boys Rugby
