Track and Field

2017 Calendar and Parent Letter
The Western Canada High School track and field team, usually consisting of around 150 athletes each year, has had many accomplishments throughout its long history. In 2014, the team won the banner for junior girls at the city championships, and four girls placed second in provincials for the 4 x 400 meters relay. Provincial records were also broken, as Meghan Lim broke the junior girls pole vault record and Madeline Sumner broke the fifteen hundred meter record. Last year, the Track and Field team headed to Kamloops, where about 50 students participated in their first major meet of the season.
There are no cuts made before divisional meets, as everyone on the team usually has a position of some sort at the major meet of the season. "My hopes are that we actually encourage more of the students at Western to come out,” says Mr. Freeman, Head Coach of the Western Track and Field team. Practices are also held in the mornings and at lunch in order to accommodate students' busy schedules.
